Crowdfunding was achieved via Kickstarter and Indiegogo with various post production adjustments being made to refine the final product. These were based on fully working (almost) final devices provided by the manufacturers.
The measured proportions are set and Oomph Zone is born. The area in which perfect coffee lives. The Smart Turbine and mesh was made modular to enable user experimentation with pressure. Multiple refinements were made based on the product prototype user testing and expert feedback.
The Oomph name is born and is a synergy of the stronger richer tasting brew that is created and also the noise of the escaping air as the Oomph is pressed. A stepped design of the outer casing was engineered to encourage the user to turn the outer casing in a clockwise direction to unlock.
A fully functional device was made and the colour was changed to white. An active stirring concept is introduced to the top of the device to assist the turbine. The lid shape is ergonomically contoured to fit the hand.
An outer casing was added to the prototype to protect the user from the hot water. The first turbine was added to stop the layering of flavours in the final coffee drink (no bitterness).
Concept model testing was carried out and patents applied for on the tri-chamber design. The concept was proved feasible using a simple 3D print and mesh
The first prototype was produced on a 3d printer. It worked in principle however an issue established with separating the two sections – The coffee brewed well, but required two people to separate the brewing pistons!
The idea was turned to reality and proof of the concept was proved by a multi chamber brewing experiment constructed with pipes and silicone.
